	LUMA in Meta Microbiome City&#38;nbsp;

LUMA in Meta Microbiome City는 2300년 미래를 배경으로 인간, 자연, 기술이 공존하는 새로운 생태계와 생명체를 상상하며, 기후변화의 문제를 인간, 비인간, 기술의 관계속에서 바라보는 프로젝트이다.
 
현재 기후위기의 징후로 점점 늘어나는 녹조(시아노 박테리아)를 공생의 대상으로 전환하여 미래를 상상한다. 작품은 녹조가 진화한 가상의 생명체 ‘루마(LUMA)’를 상상한다. 기술과 사운드를 통해 생명체와 환경, 관객이 상호공명하는 시스템을 구현하며, 테라리움은 루마의 서식지 역할을 한다. 내부에는 반려생물로서 루마가 살 법한 작은 집과 식물, 유기적 지형으로 미니 생태계가 조성되고, 루마는 이 환경의 미세한 변화를 실시간으로 수집한다. 수집된 환경 데이터는 루마의 목소리에서 추출한 사운드 레이어를 변조하며 관객의 터치와 조도와 연동되어 하나의 호흡처럼 겹쳐지는 장면을 만든다. 이를 통해 기후 변화 이후의 세계에서 인간과 비인간이 ‘터치’와 ‘소리’로 교감하는 새로운 공생 구조를 제시한다.

하루를 효율적이고 생산적으로 살아가려는 라이프
코칭 인플루언서 ‘데아리’는 생산성이라는 허상을 쫓는 동안 점점 깊어지는 공허함, 번아웃, 불안을 마주하게 된다. 이 작업은 한 인플루언서의 일상을 따라가며, 주인공의 하루와 내면을 함께 조명한다.
작품은 신자유주의적 자기계발 담론과 플랫폼 자본주의의 논리 속에서, 개인이 끊임없이 자신을 계발하고 최적화해야만 하는 동시대적 현실을 반영한다. 데아리는 데이터로 분해되고, 알고리즘에 의해 움직이며, 자기 계발 컨텐츠를 생산하는 일상을 살아간다. 그녀의 일상은 소셜 미디어 속에서 스스로를 상품화하고 효율화하는 과정을 반복하는 가운데, 인공지능의 흐름에 종속된 채 주체성을 점점 상실해간다. 그렇게 ‘정복당하는 존재’로서의 무력감을 경험하게 된다.

영상은 단편영화 형식과 자기계발 컨텐츠 영상의 문법을 참조한 2채널 비디오 설치로 구성된다. 메인 스크린에서는 영화 형식을 차용하여 주인공의 하루의 시작과 끝을 보여주며, 영상의 중반부에는 데아리가 만든 자기 계발 컨텐츠와 강연 장면들이 삽입된다. 총 3파트로 이루어진 영상은 시작과 끝이 연결된 비디오 루프로 플레이된다. 또 다른 보조 스크린에서는 데아리의 내면 독백 영상이 동시에 상영되어, 외면적 퍼포먼스와 감정의 간극을 드러낸다.

이처럼 본 작품은 데아리의 일상 루틴과 전략화된 컨텐츠 생산 노동이 교차되며, 현실과 허구, 퍼포먼스와 진심 사이의 긴장을 입체적으로 구성한다.


정복과
전복: 최적화된 자아로부터 탈주하기 (일부발췌)

 &#38;nbsp; 모두가 서로에게 닿을 수 있고, 누구나
발화할 수 있으며, 무엇이든 선택할 수 있다고 믿게 만드는 세계. 그
감각은 ‘자유’라는 이름으로 유통되며, 우리에게 무한한 가능성의 이미지를 끊임없이 주입한다. 그렇게 구성된
자유는 개인의 욕망과 불안을 동력 삼아 자신을 갱신하고 확장하는 데에 탁월하게 작동하며, 특정한 질서와
리듬 속에서 우리 일상에 스며들었다. 선택하고 말하고 연결된다는 감각은 이제 필수 불가결한 전제가 되었고, 그 전제 속에서 우리는 정해진 방향으로 움직이고 있다는 사실을 인지하지 못한 채, 자유라는 감각 그 자체를 누리며 살아간다. 그러나 그 자유는 언제나
어떤 구조 안에서만 허용되어 왔고, 그 구조는 자신을 지우는 방식을 통해 더욱 치밀해졌다. 우리는 이를 망각한 채, 가능하다는 감각 속에 머무르는 법을 배워왔다. 어느 순간부터 인간의 존엄과 자유를 약속하던 정치적 이상은 시장의 언어로 대체되어 왔고, 자유는 선택의 권리가 아니라 끊임없이 선택하도록 강제되는 조건이 되었다. 그렇다, 우리는 ‘그것’을 오인했고, 수용했고, 때로는 정교하게 구체화했다. 


욕망은 정해진 형식에 따라 배정되었고, 선택은
설계된 경로 위에서만 가능했다. 자율성은 이상을 이끌며 주어진 형식으로부터 이탈하는 능력이 아니라, 주어진 경로 위에서 규율된 수행으로 치환된다. 그렇게 자율은 계산
가능한 변수로 축소되고, 개성은 알고리즘이 선별해 주는 취향으로 정렬된다. 효율적으로 조율된 세계에 최적화된 개인은 착취의 생산성을 증명하는 존재가 되어 보이지 않는 체제에 반복적으로
응답할 뿐이다. 현재 우리가 직면한 다중적 위기에 대한 반성조차 정형화된 틀 안에서 소비될 뿐, 전환의 계기로 이어지지 못하고 있다. 이러한 굴레 속 다양한 존재와
영역과의 공존은 설 자리를 잃어가고, ‘종’이라는 개념은
더 이상 생물학적 구분에만 머물지 않으며, 자본의 흐름 속에서 새로운 분류로 재편된다. “생동하는 생명의 역학이 기술화된 자본주의라는 기업의 현실과 만나며, 그것은
착취 양식과 인식론적 틀” [1]로 전이되었기에 다양한 종은 감시와 표준화의
풍경 속에서 재배치되고 있다.


의심받지 않는 일상, 그 이면에 매끄럽게
작동하는 현실 속에서 정복은 시작된다. 정복은 더 이상 사건이 아니라,
질서의 방식이자 세계를 유지하는 무대 뒤의 조건이 되었다. 그것은 무력을 동반한 침입이나
일방적인 점유로 드러나지 않는다. 오히려 우리의 일상 깊숙이 스며들어,
강제를 동반하지 않으면서도 자연스럽게 선택을 유도하고, 행동을 설계한다. 그렇게 우리는 알지 못하는 사이, 감각을 조정하는 법을 익히고, 언어는 점차 예측 가능한 구조에 변화한다. 이제 정복은 외부로부터의
위협이 아니라, 내부로부터 조율되는 순응의 양식으로 작용하게 된 것이다. 《나는 정복당했다 – 종의 사파리》는 이러한 정복의 경험을 지나간
시제로 호출하지 않는다. 전시는 정복이 어떻게 감각되고 구성되었는지를 인지하는 동시에, 앞으로 일어날 또 다른 정복의 가능성에 대비하는 하나의 예행연습으로 기능하고자 한다. 전시에 참여한 세 명의 작가 박소라, 장우주, 정서희는 옴니버스 방식으로 구성된 각자의 작업을 통해 정복을 둘러싼 사유의 지형을 입체적으로 담아낸다.


박소라는 신자유주의 시스템이 개인의 행동양식과 언어를 어떻게 형성하고 지배하는지, 특히 플랫폼 환경에서 개인이 자신을 어떻게 효율적으로 재생산하는지에 주목해 작업을 이어오고 있다. 이번 전시에서 선보이는 &#38;lt;데아리의 하루&#38;gt;(2025)는 하루를 효과적이고 생산적으로 살아내려는 라이프 코칭 인플루언서 ‘데아 리(Dea Lee)’의 일상을 따라간다. 단편영화의 형식과 자기 계발 콘텐츠의 문법을 참조한 이 작품은 데아리의 일상 루틴과 전략화된 콘텐츠 생산 노동을
보여준다. 작품 속 데아리는 ‘데이터로 기록하고 분석하세요’, ‘당신의 이미지를 디자인하세요’, ‘일상을 자동화하고 빠르게 실행하세요’ 등 일련의 코칭 콘텐츠를 통해 자기 계발을 지속하며, 이를 다시
플랫폼에 유통한다. 더 나은 자아상을 만들기 위해 시스템의 분석을 기다리거나, 타인에게 보일 모습을 설계하며 사회가 이상적으로 여기는 긍정적이고 행복한 개인을 좇는다. 나아가 선택과 결정을 스스로가 아닌 시스템에 위임하는 편리함 속에서, 데아리는
자동화된 실행을 반복하며 가속화되는 자기 최적화의 과정에 몰두한다. 그러나 이러한 자기 계발 서사를
충실히 따르면서도, 타인과의 차이를 증명하고자 하는 그녀의 욕망은 매끄럽게 구성된 자아의 표면에 끊임없이
들러붙고, 해소되기 어려운 불안감은 현실과 계속해서 어긋난다. 불투명한
플랫폼 시스템 안에서 그녀는 점차 데이터 단위로 분해되고, 알고리즘에 의해 움직이며, 콘텐츠를 생산하고 소비하는 순환 구조에 종속된다. “이윤 생산이
장기적으로 하락하고 제조업이 부진에 빠진 오늘, 자본주의가 경제성장을 회복하고 활력을 유지하는 수단으로
데이터에 눈을 돌렸다” [2]는 점을 상기해 볼 때, 작가는 데이터화된 삶 속에서 유연화된 개인이 형성되고 발현되는 방식을 주목하며, 그 과정에서 드러나는 긴장과 균열을 면밀히 관찰한다. 그렇게 형성된
이상화된 자아는 자유의지를 실현하는 자율적 주체라기보다, 시스템에 의해 정복된 채 능동과 무력 사이를
오가는 존재로 남는다.

Conquest and
Subversion: Escaping the Optimised Self&#38;nbsp; (excerpted in part)

&#38;nbsp; We
inhabit a world that convinces us we are all connected, that anyone may speak,
and that everything is a matter of choice. This pervasive sentiment circulated,
under the name of ‘freedom’, relentlessly infuses us with visions of infinite
possibility. Such a constructed sense of freedom, propelled by individual
desire and anxiety, functions with remarkable efficacy to renew and expand the
self. It permeates our daily lives within particular orders and rhythms. The
sensation of choosing, of speaking, of being connected has become a fundamental
premise. Yet within that premise, we move in predetermined directions, largely
unaware, while continuing to experience the feeling of freedom itself. However,
this freedom has always been granted only within specific structures that have
grown increasingly sophisticated by virtue of their capacity for self-erasure. We
have learned to remain suspended in the illusion of possibility. At some point,
the political ideals that once promised human dignity and liberty were displaced
by the language of the market. Freedom no longer denotes the right to choose;
rather, it becomes a condition of being compelled to choose constantly. Indeed,
we have misunderstood it, embraced it, and at times concretised it with precision.


Desire is allocated according to
pre-established formats; choice is only viable along predesigned trajectories.
Autonomy no longer signals the capacity to deviate from the given form, but
instead becomes a regulated performance confined to those paths. Self-determination
is thus reduced to a calculable variable, individuality reorganised into
preferences curated by algorithms. The individual, optimised within a finely
calibrated world, becomes a figure of productivity, repeatedly responding to an
invisible regime. Even our critical reflection on the multiple crises we face
today is consumed within formulaic frameworks, failing to lead to genuine
transformation. Amidst this entrapment, the possibility of coexistence between
various beings and realms is gradually eroded. The notion of 'species' extends
beyond biological distinctions and is reclassified according to the flow of
capital. As Jussi Parikka has observed, "the dynamics of living organisms meet
the corporate reality of techno-capitalism, transforming into a mode of
exploitation and an epistemological framework."[1] In
such a landscape, species are reordered within the vistas of surveillance and
standardisation.


In a world where seamless reality operates
behind the scenes of an unquestioned everyday life, conquest begins. Conquest
is no longer an event – it has become a method of
governance, a backstage condition for the maintenance of the world. It does not
present itself through armed invasions or unilateral occupation. Rather, it
infiltrates our daily lives, inducing choices and shaping behaviour without
explicit coercion. We learn, unknowingly, to recalibrate our senses, and our
language increasingly conforms to predictable structures. Conquest now acts not
as an external threat, but as an internally regulated mode of compliance. I
AM Conquered does not recall this experience of
conquest in the past tense. Instead, it functions as a kind of rehearsal: a
practice of recognising how conquest is sensed and constructed, while anticipating
future forms it may yet take. The three participating artists – Sora Park, Wooju
Chang, and Sophie Jeong – each articulate the landscape of thought surrounding
conquest through works that are arranged in an omnibus format, rendering its
contours multidimensional and layered.


&#38;nbsp; Sora
Park explores how neoliberal systems shape and dominate behavioural
patterns and linguistic frameworks, focusing on how individuals reproduce
themselves efficiently within platform environments. In this exhibition, her
work Dea Lee’s Day (2025) follows the routine of ‘Dea Lee’, a lifestyle
coach and influencer striving to live each day with maximum productivity. Adopting
the format of a short film and the grammar of self-help content, the piece
documents Dea Lee’s strategically designed routines and content production. Her
day unfolds through a series of coaching slogans such as “Record and analyse
your data”, “Design your image”, and “Automate your routine and execute fast”.
She perpetually refines herself through self-optimisation, continually
redistributing this practice across platforms. In her pursuit of an idealised
self, Dea Lee awaits system-generated feedback, designs her projected identity,
and chases the societally sanctioned image of happiness and positivity. She
finds comfort in delegating decision-making to the system, endlessly repeating
automated actions within the accelerating cycle of optimisation. Yet her desire
to prove herself different from others clings to the polished surface of this
self-construction. A residual anxiety persists – her idealised self remains out
of sync with the uncertainties of reality. Trapped within the opacity of
platform logic, she is gradually decomposed into units of data, animated by
algorithmic directives, and absorbed into a feedback loop of content production
and consumption. Nick Srnicek notes that “as profits have declined and
manufacturing faltered, capitalism has turned to data as a new engine for
growth.”[2]Park’s work focuses on how the flexible, datafied individual is formed and
expressed, closely observing the tensions and fractures that emerge in the
process. The idealised self, far from being an autonomous subject, becomes a
being conquered by the system – oscillating between agency and inertia.

오늘날 완벽한 신체를 향한 인간의 욕망은 과학·기술의 발전과 함께 점차 실현되고 있다. 동시대 한국 사회에서 끊임없는 젊음과 결점 없는 외모에 대한 관심, 완벽한 신체에 관한 우리의 욕망은 시대적으로 유행하는 미적 기준과 사회적 규범과 함께 상호작용하며 끊임없이새로운 유행과 뷰티 상품, 서비스를 만들어 내고 있다. 디지털 공간도 다르지 않다. 오늘날 완벽한 신체를 향한 인간의 욕망은 디지털 공간에서 대중을 흡입하는 매력을 가진 디지털 휴먼의 출현으로, 소셜미디어 공간의 다양한 뷰티 필터의 대중적 사용으로 반영되고 있다.

&#38;lt;NeoTex Depot&#38;gt;은 미래 가상 인간의 사회를 배경으로 하고 있다. 동시대 인간이 욕망하는 결점 없는 외모, 완벽한 신체에 대한 사회적 열망은 작품의 시공간적 배경인 미래 가상 인간들의 세계에서는 더 이상 효용이 없다. 가상 인간은 모두가 원하는 모습의 인물이 될수 있기 때문이다. 노화와 죽음이 존재하지 않고, 타고난 신체적 외형을 바꾸거나 설정하는데 한계가 없다. 클릭 한 번으로 인간의 외형은 쉽게 변화할 수 있는 가변적 성격을 띄고 있다. 

만약 신체를 더욱 자유롭게 변형할 수 있는 날이 오게 된다면, 미래 가상 인간들의 세계에는 어떤 새로운 열망과 가치가 새롭게 등장할까. 오늘날 일상에서 사용되는 여러 종류의 디바이스들은 어떠한 새로운 양상으로 변화하여 나타날까. &#38;lt;NeoTex Depot&#38;gt;은 이러한 맥락에서 시작한다. 어느 미래 시점의 디지털 공간을 살아가는 디지털 휴먼의 웨어러블 디바이스를 저장하는 저장소에서 영감을 받아 구상되었다. 미래 가상 인간의 웨어러블 뷰티 디바이스&#38;lt;I-META&#38;gt;를 상상하고 이를 조각 모형의 형태로 재현하며, 인간의 살과 같은 사실적 스킨 텍스처들은 조각에 함께 담겨 설치 공간에 함께 전시된다. 이 프로젝트는 상정된 디바이스의 모형과&#38;nbsp; 화장실이라는 공적 공간, 인스타그램 필터를 통해 현재와 미래, 가상과 현실, 공적 공간과 사적공간의 경계를 탐구하는 작품이다.. 
	
The human aspiration for the perfect body is progressively becoming achievable through the development of science and technology. In contemporary Korean society, the constant pursuit of youth and a flawless appearance, coupled with our desire for the perfect body, becomes intertwined with the prevalent beauty standards and societal conventions of the time. This ongoing interaction consistently leads to the emergence of new beauty trends, services, and products. The digital space is no different. It mirrors these aspiration and trends. Today, the human desire for the perfect body is reflected in the emergence of digital humans with captivating appearances in the digital realm and is being mirrored by the widespread use of beauty filters in the realm of social media. The project &#38;lt;NeoTex Depot&#38;gt; starts from this context. 

&#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp;&#38;nbsp;&#38;nbsp;&#38;nbsp;&#38;nbsp;&#38;nbsp;&#38;nbsp;&#38;nbsp;&#38;nbsp;&#38;nbsp;&#38;lt;NeoTex Depot&#38;gt; is set in a near future society where digital humans live. This fictional setting provides a spatial and temporal background for the project. The societal longing for a flawless appearance and the perfect body no longer exist in the future digital space, as virtual humans can choose any appearance they desire. Ageing and death do not exist in the digital realm, and there are no limits to altering one’s innate physical form. Just with a simple click, the skins of humans can change variably. If a day comes when our bodies can be transformed even more freely, what new desires and values could emerge in the world of virtual humans? In this speculated scenario, how would the beauty devices used in today’s life be transformed into different shapes?

&#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp;&#38;nbsp;&#38;nbsp;&#38;nbsp;&#38;nbsp;&#38;nbsp;&#38;nbsp;&#38;nbsp;&#38;nbsp;&#38;nbsp;&#38;lt;NeoTex Depot&#38;gt; starts from this context. The visual motif of the installation is inspired by a futuristic item inventory that stores wearable devices of digital humans living in a digital space. &#38;lt;NeoTex Depot&#38;gt; postulates a wearable beauty device for virtual humans in the future, then represent it in the form of a sculptural model, and realistic human skin textures are installed as part of sculptures in the public restrooms. Through the model of the device, public space and Instagram filter, this project explores the boundaries between the present and the future, the virtual and the real and between public and private spaces.

	사치품, 그 너머로서의 얼굴

	살인적인 인플레와 가치저장수단의 비물질화로 인해 사장되어가다시피 하는 50원에 대해 생각해본 적 있는가? 주화에 그려진 벼 이삭을 보고 생각에 잠길 이는 어릴수록 드물리라 생각된다. 앞면에 새겨진 벼의 품종은 통일미다. 전후 베이비 붐이 시작되면서 미곡생산량은 상대적으로 절하되기 시작했고, 정부는 쌀의 품종개량에 전력을 기울였다. 환경에 취약한 농작물은 너 나 할 것 없이 인위적인 품종개량의 역사를 거쳤고, 동아시아가 선호하는 자포니카 쌀 양산 문제는 마침내 허문회라는 인물에 의해 해결된다. 서울대 농업생명과학대학 교수로 재임하던 그는 1964년, 쌀 문제를 두고 고심하던 농촌진흥청에 국제미작연구소(IRRI) 파견을 요청했다. 필리핀 마닐라에서 조금 떨어진 남부 지역의 이 연구소에서 품종교배를 반복한 그의 노력은 ‘통일미’라는 결실을 맺는다. 비록 이후엔 맛과 더불어 냉해에 취약하다는 단점으로 인해 사장되었지만, 통일미는 전국적으로 재배되며 남한의 미곡수요를 만족시킨 성과를 인정받아 이미지로 탈각되어 영원을 보장받게 되었다.

 통일미 품종 하나를 얻기 위해 수백 번의 교잡이 이루어졌음은 자명하다. 이런 인위선택은 자연선택의 범주나 역사에 비하면 지나치게 짧을뿐더러, 어떤 영역에선 인위선택과 자연선택을 면밀히 나누기도 어렵다. 자연 안에서 적자가 되려는 욕망은 상호삼투적이다. 늑대가 개가 되어 온 긴 역사적 과정에서 반영된 것은 오로지 인간의 욕망뿐일까? 개도, 인간도 스스로의 욕망을 각자에게 투사하고 그에 걸맞게 진화했다. 더 온순하게, 더 충직하게, 더 사랑스럽게 진화한 개들은 인간들의 울타리 안에서 번영이라는 종적 명령을 완수했다. 이는 200년에도 채 못 미치는 브리딩 문화의 시간만으론 설명할 수 없는 것이다. 따라서 인위선택이란 낱말에 내장된 개념은 인간과 자연을 왜곡된 방식으로 분리시키면서 욕망의 상호주의를 가린다고 할 수 있다. 만물은 자연 안에서 꽃과 벌처럼 각자의 욕망을 실현하는 상대방의 자리를 종적, 본능적, 의식적으로 상상하고 설계하는 프로그램을 실험한다. 꽃은 번식을, 벌은 꿀을 얻는다. 이 도식에서 과연 누가 욕망의 객체이며, 주체일까?

 우리는 박소라의 작업에서도 비슷한 욕망의 관계도를 읽어낼 수 있다. 오늘날 새로움의 미학은 오직 상품에 있다는 듯, 제품시연회의 형식을 빌어 전개되는 &#38;lt;메타뷰티 이노베이션&#38;gt;에선 페이스 허거를 연상시키는 웨어러블 기기 ‘아이 메타’가 선전된다. 이것은 통제할 수 없을 정도로 빠르게 변화하는 트렌드를 반영하고 실시간으로 업데이트할 수 있는 코스메틱 디바이스다. 영상 속의 박사라는 SF, 디지털, 미래시제 등의 장치들이 무색하게 오늘날의 이슈처럼 들리는 말들을 거듭 피칭한다. ‘아이 메타’는 “소셜미디어에서 얼마나 많은 ‘좋아요’를 받을 수 있을지 예측할 수 있으”며, 이를 통해 수익모델을 구축한 인플루언서들의 “노동생산성을 극대화 할 수 있”다. “진화를 넘어선다”는 박사의 주장에도 불구하고, 이는 여전히 환경-적응의 프레임 안에서 회전하는 욕망의 문제처럼 보인다. 주목경제와 맞닿은 가정 안에서 시작되는 기이한 게임. 각자가 꽃과 벌처럼 얻을 것을 얻고 내줄 것을 내준다. 시각적 충족을 얻고 광고를 소비하는 관객, 관심과 재화를 얻고 즐거움을 수출하는 인플루언서, 화폐를 지출하고 트래픽을 얻는 광고사, 세 곳 모두로부터 이익을 편취하는 플랫폼. 누구 하나 잃지 않을 것처럼 보이는 신성한 도박판이 차려졌다.

 이와 같은 경제를 작동시키는 ‘아이 메타’의 힘의 공식은 특기할 만한 것이다. 유기체의 외모는 타인의 욕망 안에서 발생하는, 일종의 자발성에 의지한다. 하나의 외모가 아름답기 위해선 보여짐이라는 행위를 통해 발산되는 광채 그 이상을 보답 받아야만 한다. 아름다움은 눈, 코, 입의 조화에 기인한 내적 본질이 아니라 보여짐이라는 행위 속에 있으며, 시선을 통과해 반사되는 광채가 강렬하면 강렬할수록 커다란 매력으로 치환된다. 타인의 눈이라는 돋보기 속에서 광채가 집약되어야만 하기에, 타인의 눈은 누군가의 미를 투사할 옵스큐라가 된다. 그러니 외모는 본인이 소유한 불가분의 성물이라기보다는, 복잡한 시계열에 의해 등락하는 자산이라고 말할 수도 있을 것이다. ‘아이 메타’는 시계열에 대해 상대적으로 고정되고 안정된 외모로부터 탈구되고 포트폴리오 기법을 택하는 쪽으로 기운다. 이제 외모는 능동적이다. 저쪽의 일방적인 평가에 의해 결정되는 것이 아니라, 어떤 평가가 이루어질지 예측하고 대응하는 유능한 투자자로서의 외모.
이 과정에서 ‘아이 메타’는 숭고해진다. 그간 외모가 내리쬐는 광채란, 타인에게 먼저 베풀지만 존재론적 보답이 전제된 것이었다. 그러나 ‘아이 메타’의 궁극적 이타심은 광채의 수렴을 생물학적이고 유기체적인 것에서 품이 들지 않는 ‘좋아요’로 변형시키고 발산의 광채를 지표로 전환시켜 관람자 역시 광채의 일부가 되어 발산의 순례에 동참하도록 이끈다. 이제 보여지는 것에 자족성이나 고양감 따위는 없다. 이것은 오로지 무차별적 타인만을 겨냥한 섬광이라는 점에서 인공-태양이다. 이 무기체적-금속성 매력은 착용자를 피부 아래로 유폐시켜 귀금속과 같은 구간으로 재배치한다. 본디 귀금속의 광채는 착용자를 돋보이게 하지만, ‘아이 메타’의 광채는 메두사처럼 사용자를 광물로 석화시켜 광채-그-자체로 만든다. 낙하한 숭고함 위로 시시각각 반영되는 트렌드는 구체적인 상을 맺지 못한 채 (마치 그 안에 갇힌 얼굴이 뛰쳐나오려 발악이라도 하는 듯)무한히 유동한다. 트렌드를 자임하려는 모든 트렌드가 실시간으로 경합 중일 것이기에.


이제 얼굴에서 일관성을 찾아보고 주체의 본질을 부여하려는 시도는 좌절될 것이다. 통일벼의 이미지가 보여주는 안정감은 동일성의 복사와 일관성을 유지하는 가치의 지표로 인해 보장되었다.(50원은 언제나 50원이다) 그렇지만 이 안정감은 언제나 허구적이었다. 화폐의 안정성은 인플레이션에 의해 끊임없이 감쇠할 뿐이라는 경제를 은폐한 뒤에야 등록될 수 있는 품종이다. 마찬가지로 인간의 외모가 주는 존재의 동일성은 노화와 타인의 평가라는 요인에 의해 허구적이었으면서도, 이 실재를 간과한 채 보증받았다. ‘아이 메타’는 차라리 솔직하다. 얼굴의 체계 역시 자산과 같은 평가 체계 안에 속한다는 것을 갈파하며 끊임없이 적응하기를 요청한다. 내가 소유하고 있다 믿었던 외모는 단순히 눈, 코, 입의 기능적 차원에서만 유효했으며, 그것들이 종합되어 나타나는 장식적 이미지로서의 외모는 정반대에 속한다는 사실을 직격하는 디바이스. 이제 불변이나 본질은 드러난 허구가 되었다. 그동안 특정한 양식이나 트렌드와 단절될 수 있는 것은 유일무이성이었다. 그것은 아우라의 원천이었으며, 예술이 공예에 대립되어 스스로의 위치를 확보할 수 있는 소도이기도 했다. 그러나 지문과도 같았던 얼굴의 고유함이 담보하던 존재론적 안락함은 ‘아이 메타’의 문화적 우세 속에서 부식된다. 눈, 코, 입의 사사로운 배치를 통해 빚어낸 고유성의 표찰은 구시대의 유물로 화한다. 눈, 코, 입은 ‘붙어 있는 것’이라는 점에서 장식이다. 지당하게도, 장식은 언제든 대체될 수 있다. 얼굴이라는 오래된 기종의 촌스러움은 5백 명만 소유할 수 있다는 ‘아이 메타’의 희소성에 의해 배가된다. 이제 종합은 눈, 코, 입에 의한 상호작용이 아니다. 한때는 그것의 상보성으로 인해 나타는 표정을 바탕으로 영혼을 추정할 수 있었지만 시대가 변해버린다. 소유와 존재가 분리된 자본주의적 소외는, ‘아이 메타’의 소유가 존재를 구성하는 종합 속에서 환등상적 헤테로토피아를 구성한다. 광채-그-자체를 표상하는 메탈릭한 유동의 외형에는 희소성이 첨가되어 사회적 힘과 지위를 시각적으로 표시하기에, 광배는 후광에서 옮겨가 전면에서부터 방사되는 역사적 상변이를 일으킨다.
 ‘아이 메타’는 시각적으로, 장식적으로, 기능적으로 볼 수 있는 것과 마찬가지로 징후적으로 볼 수도 있다. “우리의 미래는 빠르게 변화할 수 있는 데 달려 있다”는 박사라의 말은 ‘아이 메타’를 생존을 위한 키트처럼 여겨지게끔 한다. 그렇다면 이제 ‘아이 메타’는 단순히 인플루언서를 위한 사치재가 아니라, 기필코 가져야만 하는 필수재가 되어버린다. 변화에 대한 적응은 가속하는 세계에서 누락되지 않기 위한 노력인 동시에, 자연 안의 만물이 발생 이래로 지속적으로 다투어 온 전장이다. 데이터를 분석하고 반영하는 것을 ‘자동화’한다는 점에서 이제 변화와 적응은 주체적 역능이 아니라 성능에 따른 모방의 문제가 된다. 이 모방은 유행과 불가분의 관계를 맺어 왔다. 유행을 모방하는 속도는 곧 그가 속한 계급의 지표이기도 했다. 그것이 계급을 드러내기에, ‘지나간다’는 수사가 만들어내는 앞-뒤의 착각에서 벗어나 유행이 위에서 아래로 ‘흐른다’는 점을 직시해야 한다. 이 유행에 동참할 때 인간은 특정한 양식 안에 속하면서 특정 구간에 입장하는 동시에, 하위 구간으로부터 차별된다. 그러니 ‘아이 메타’는 우리에게 도태와 모방의 양자택일을 종용한다. 나락까지 침하하거나, 방공호 안에서 안락함을 누리거나.

 이제 우리는 통일벼와 대척점에 서있는 ‘아이 메타’의 성상을 유비할 수 있게 되었다. 통일벼는 비록 영원을 획득했지만, 가속하는 인플레이션과 세계의 비물질화라는 변화를 견디지 못하고 도태되었다. 가치 하락에 의해 찾아볼 수 없게 되었고, 결제수단의 다각화로 인해 더욱 그렇게 되었다. 반면 ‘아이 메타’는 어떠한 형체도 이룰 수 없기에 무엇도 보장할 수 없는 것처럼 보이지만, 거꾸로 이 흐름 바깥으로 튕겨나가지 않을 것처럼 우리를 매혹한다. 지그문트 바우만의 액체 근대를 말할 것도 없이, 이 유동성은 곧 자본의 유동성이고, 우리 삶의 유동성과 맞닿는다. 유동성에 쓸려나갈 위협으로부터 우리를 구제하고 그 안으로 은닉할 수 있도록 돕는 ‘아이 메타’의 외피는 어쩌면 우리 인류에게 새로이 돋아난 뿔일지도 모른다. 물론 새로이 뿔이 자라났기에, 우리는 더 이상 인간으로 분류될 수 없을 것이다.

	&#38;lt;Soft Touch(2022)&#38;gt;는 네트워크 기술발달이 가속화된 미래의 어느 시점을 배경으로 한 작품이다. 이 프로젝트는 디지털 게임공간에 살며 일하고 있는 버추얼 휴먼 인플루언서 ‘김 제임스’씨를 위해 상상의 웨어러블 디바이스를 디자인하고 이의 프로토타입을 하나의 조각작품으로서 제시한다. 가상공간에 대한 미래적 상상과 디지털 공간의 의복과 인간의 외양에 대한 질문을 던지는 이 작품은 다가올지도 모르는 미래의 상황을 우리가 현재 마주하고 있는 사회,문화적 양상을 반영하여 그려낸다. 작품을 구성하고 있는 허구의 짧은 대화록과 가상의 웨어러블 디바이스라는 소재를 통해 완벽한 신체에 대한 관심, 유료화 서비스로 표현된 경제적 불균형, 속도감 있게 소비되고 있는 현대 디지털 커뮤니케이션 풍경 등 동시대 사회가 마주한 현상과 문제를 미래를 시점으로 한 공상과학 장르의 언어를 통해 다시 비춘다.&#38;nbsp;


Soft Touch (2022) is a project that is set in a near-future society with accelerated development network technology. In this project, an imaginary wearable device is postulated and designed for a fictional character “James Kim”, a virtual human influencer living and working in a digital game space. With posing questions on the futuristic imaginings of virtual space, digital garments, and human appearances, this project depicts a future that may come through reflecting current social and cultural aspects that we now face. 

Through short fictional dialogues within the work and the subject matter of virtual wearable devices, this work reflects the phenomena and problems of contemporary society, such as people’s interest in perfect bodies, the economic imbalance, and the current digital landscape with high-speed consumption. 

*The imaginary wearable device presented in this project is a virtual glove that facilitates the on-screen gestures, such as touching, scrolling, and zooming in and out that are commonly used on-screen interfaces.

	&#38;lt;시티 펜스&#38;gt; (2022) 는 디지털 디바이스로 인해 데이터로 전환되었던 몸이 디지털 바깥에 있는 물리적 공간으로 재현되면서 신체적 감각이 새롭게 공간의 척도로 재생되는 경험을 제공한다. 펜스가 도시의 공간을 분할하고 구획하는 경계가 되듯이, 디지털 속의 인터페이스는 디지털 공간을 분할하고 구획하는 경계가 된다. 이렇게 차원이 다른 두 공간을 우리는 몸을 매개로 각각의 공간을 경험할 뿐만 아니라 한 공간에서 다른공간으로 이동할 때 차이도 경험한다. 특히 다른 공간을 경험하면서 우리의 신체는 전에 없던 감정과 감각을 느낀다. 작품은 디지털화되면서 데이터로 경험되던 몸을 현실 세계에 위치시키면서 그 몸을 다시 공간의 척도로 되돌린다. 돌아온 몸은 현실 속에서 그 움직임의 윤곽을 새롭게 나누는 경계이며, 데이터에서 물질로 되돌아 온 몸의 경계를 새롭게 정하려는 용도를 보여주는 시도이다.

 &#38;lt;Item Inventory(2021)&#38;gt;는 웨어러블 디바이스의&#38;nbsp;‘입을&#38;nbsp;수&#38;nbsp;있음&#38;nbsp;(wearability)’와&#38;nbsp;‘신체적&#38;nbsp;증진(body enhancement)’&#38;nbsp;이라는&#38;nbsp;두가지&#38;nbsp;요소에서&#38;nbsp;출발한다.&#38;nbsp;게임&#38;nbsp;캐릭터는&#38;nbsp;플레이어가&#38;nbsp;가상세계에&#38;nbsp;존재하는&#38;nbsp;아바타를&#38;nbsp;직접&#38;nbsp;조작한다는&#38;nbsp;점에서&#38;nbsp;사용자의&#38;nbsp;연장된&#38;nbsp;자아&#38;nbsp;혹은&#38;nbsp;신체라고&#38;nbsp;여겨진다.&#38;nbsp;온라인&#38;nbsp;게임&#38;nbsp;캐릭터의의복과&#38;nbsp;아이템은&#38;nbsp;이러한&#38;nbsp;캐릭터의&#38;nbsp;신체적&#38;nbsp;역량&#38;nbsp;혹은&#38;nbsp;능력을&#38;nbsp;증진시키거나&#38;nbsp;특별한&#38;nbsp;능력을&#38;nbsp;부여한다는&#38;nbsp;점에서&#38;nbsp;현&#38;nbsp;세계의&#38;nbsp;웨어러블&#38;nbsp;디바이스의&#38;nbsp;특성과&#38;nbsp;유사하다.

Dimension variable, stoneware, metal frame, eco-board
This project began with seeking conceptual similarities between modern wearable devices and online game items. Real players experience physical expansion into the digital space in that they directly manipulate avatar in the virtual world. Clothing and items of online game characters share similarities with today’s wearable devices in that they enhance the character’s physical capabilities or endow them with special abilities. It is a project that was intended to connect now and the near future through organic materiality of ceramic clay, digital devices, and virtual game items.


&#38;lt;Soft Prologue&#38;gt; (2022) is an installation work using ceramic sculptures. In this project, digital objects, such as virtual garments, game items and game devices of game spaces are transformed into ceramic sculptures. The item inventory space—which is easily seen in the online game space is reconstructed in real space while creating a unique and uncanny atmosphere.
